About James Fisher Rumic and Offshore Services

Rumic Ltd was formed in 1984 by Roger Chapman to provide underwater inspection services to the offshore and defence industries. The company became a leading provider of offshore personnel to the telecom, oil and gas sectors and forged an enviable reputation in the provision of submarine rescue services to the Royal Navy.

James Fisher and Sons plc bought Rumic Ltd in October 2002. The company was renamed James Fisher Rumic Ltd but continued to service the same markets as before but with the considerable backing of a plc.

In 2006 James Fisher Rumic Ltd became a sub-division of James Fisher Defence (JFD). Roger Chapman became Vice Chairman of JFD and retired as Managing Director of JFRL.

JFD manage, maintain and operate the Royal Nav's submarine rescue service. The reputation of JFD as a world leader in the field of submarine rescue was enhanced by the successful rescue of seven Russian submariners in 2005  More info

From 1 September 2008, James Fisher Rumic became James Fisher Marine Services Ltd, for commercial and contractual purposes. However, as "Rumic" is a recognised brand within the offshore industry, the James Fisher Rumic name is being retained for continuity.
